Let’s go to Switzerland where people pay taxes and public services are available for citizens… including geospatial data.

You got it right,  the swiss official geospatial data and standard products are now available online free of charge and for open access use.

In the framework of the “Open Government Data” Strategy, the swiss federal topographic institute SWISSTOPO since 1 march 2021 provides users with maps, arial imagery, historic data, topographic surveying at no cost. To view it on the map viewer of the Swiss Federal Geoportal map.geo.admin.ch.  or enter the link Geodata and applications

SWISSTOPO stated…. “The data offered free of charge is that which can be acquired online independently or automatically by users via the Internet and which therefore does not require any effort on the part of swisstopo (= standard digital products). During the first step, the most popular standard digital products are available for online acquisition. In future, however, the service could be expanded to include other federal geodata that are the responsibility of swisstopo.”

Still not free of charge: the special preparation of data; special formats; data not (yet) downloadable; commercial products and services; printed products; swipos.

Switzerland just completed the 3D digital maps of the country at 60cm. The landscape models are amazing. Anyhow, the basic geolocation reference is available for anyone ready to implement solutions, apps, applications, software, utilities and more in favor of the country quality implementation.

Drones have lot to do, to implement and develop; generate data and solutions along 3D technologies, lidar, inspection, transportation and more,

A challenge for any citizen while the country is going totally digital and really smart city.

Why not creating and Hack-ton? .. stay tuned….
